POETRY PROJECT

I was invited to participate in this project between poets and painters. It will be held at Heritage Art Center in Lexington, KY in February, opening on the 19th. This gallery shows the development of my response to the poem entitled "The Drought Meditations" which is I believe by Jude McPherson. Images will go up to show my progression on the project maybe once a week? Please remember that copyrights to all images belong to the artist. Copyrights to the poem belong to the poet. Please let me know if you like this peek into the studio while I am working.

The title dirives from a phrase first used, aparently, in 1599 as a stage direction - meaning "all on one's own".

My response to the individual figure depends on the mood of the model. The figures do not convey a resemblance to the physical appearance of the model. The majority of these paintings and drawings were done using the same model. The difference in "style" has to do with the emotional content of the piece.

BORDERS, BOUNDARIES, FRONTIERS

These things are an integral part of our lives. We cross from one state - real, imaginary, conceptual, or natural- to another every day. Change, movement is constant.

Examples of Special Orders. Prices of similar designs are based on world market prices at the time of order - ie: gold, gems and pearls. To give you a basic idea:

Tier 1=$1.00 to 200.00; Tier 2=$200.00 to 400.00; Tier 3=$400.00 to 600.00; Tier 4=$600.00 to 800.00; Tier 5=$800.00 to 1,000.00; Tier 6=$1,000.00 and up.

Fabrication time varies from 3 to 6 days to several years if you want something rare. I once looked for three years for a particular strand of blue/grey saltwater akoya pearls. Sometimes you just have to wait until the oysters are in the right mood. All dimensions are given in mm - 1 inch = approximately 25.4mm.

GIFT SHOP I - POTS

The Gift Shop Galleries are an eclectic mix of paintings, pots and jewelry. Every museum and most galleries have a gift shop area. Unlike most museum and gallery gift shops, all the work included in these pages is original and made by me. There are no reproductions - other than the images of my paintings that I have made into notecards. I hope you enjoy your visit.

Pearls, like amber, are organic gems - ie: not made in the heat of the Earth's mantle. Most people think that pearls are just white, or maybe pink. Actually pearls come in an amazing range of colors! I select the best quality and the most unusual colors I can find for my designs. I have no wish to duplicate what you can find in the malls and the department stores.  Being mildly rebellious , I insist that it is a "good thing" to wear colored studs in the workplace. According to a recent study I read, most working women wear white plearl studs or whit diamond studs to work. This strikes me as lacking imagination. Also, such a choice rarely compliments most Americans skin tones. If you choose to wear jewelry, it should compliment both your actual skin tome and the shape of your face.

All gems are manipulated in some way to enhance their appearence. Pearls are, of course, polished and can be bleached and/or permanently dyed. Hence the many available colors. If you have something in particular in mind and don't see it here - contact me and I will see if it is available. If a pearl sports a natural color - white, pink/orange/grey - I will so note.
