Emily - Hand built small ceramic jar, pottery jar, hand made red earthenware coil and slab built ceramic pottery jar, Ikebana vase, small flower vase.
3 3/4" X 3 1/2" X 6"
Glaze on glaze decoration with glass runs in blue and white.
Normally a piece is fired twice: once for what is called the "bisque" fire and once for the glaze fire. Additional firings may be done if decals, China Paints, or lusters are being used.
If the potter is looking for something in particular, more than one glaze firings might be undertaken. It took 4 glaze firings to get the glaze interactions seen here. You can catch glimpses of the red earthenware through the glazes as well as the blues and white glazes that I used on this piece. The piece feels really good when held in your hands. The surface is smooth and glossy. I used a glass that had just a bit of cobalt blue in it for the glass runs. The color blended very well with the glaze colors.
All my bowls are food safe unless otherwise noted. In this case, I doubt it would be an issue. Signed and dated in ink on the bottom.
